Recall all the dubious ICs, PBS says again

Kota Marudu: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Monday reiterated that both the Federal and State governments must expedite the retraction of illegally issued identity cards to foreigners and implement issuance of new documents and ICs to genuine Sabahans.

Describing it as part of the effort to cleanup Sabah of illegal immigrants, PBS Deputy President Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Ongkili said this was included among recommendations in the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) Report on resolving the illegal immigrant problem in Sabah.

"Many say it's a difficult task, but we in PBS believe it's doable. For a start, deal with proven cases of illegal issuance first; and let those questionable IC holders come forward and prove they are indeed genuine citizens," said Ongkili at the PBS N5 Tandek 31st annual general meeting at the Kota Marudu Community Hall.

Stressing that PBS fully supports all recommendations of the RCI, Ongkili, who is also the Member of Parliament here, said the re-registration effort is the only means to filter out all and unqualified foreigners that have obtained citizenship illegally or through false means.

PBS will remain persistent in demanding these actions in order to give respect to the RCI report and respond to the demand of Sabahans regarding this matter, he said.

"Therefore, both the Federal and State governments must take the necessary action to implement the RCI recommendation to re-register all Malaysians of Sabah origin for the territorial sovereignty of Sabah and security of Malaysia," he said.
