Federal Government approves RM 5.5mil grant for 110 Ba'Kelalan churches

PETALING JAYA: The Federal Government has approved a RM5.5 million allocation to assist 110 rural churches in the Ba’Kelalan constituency in Sarawak, said Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili.

“The grant will be disbursed based on the request submitted by the respective churches, some needing repair and other newly built,” he said while officiating the eight series of the Yayasan Hijau Malaysia (YaHijau) Tour Programme at the Kampung Long Tuan Cultural House in Trusan, near Lawas.

The Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) deputy president also gave his assurances that he would ensure the Prime Minister's Office would make sure that the churches received their funds as soon as possible.

"This is a personal assurance from me because these churches could not be assisted by the assemblyman who is from the Opposition for some time,” he said.

Dr Ongkili added that the allocation shows that the Federal Government  is supportive of the religious and spiritual development of the people.

“It is also good for nation building. Only a caring party like Barisan Nasional can assist with the needs of the people, including facilities for worship in Sabah and Sarawak,” said Dr Ongkili.

Also present at the event was Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan.

The PBS president urged voters to come out in full force to recapture the seat from the Opposition.

“The last five years have been bitter for the people due to the lack of development. I believe the voters here are wise and will make the right decision come polling day. Only Barisan Nasional can fulfill the people's needs,” he said.
