Ongkili: Selangor govt, Splash should extend talks deadline

KUALA LUMPUR:The Selangor government and Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor Holdings Bhd (Splash) should extend their discussions on the takeover of the water concessionaire to resolve pending issues.

Ongkili says there are still a lot of unresolved matters on the state government’s side.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili said there were still a lot of unresolved matters on the state government’s side.

The deadline for the negotiations is Oct 7.

“Both parties need to extend the date,” said Ongkili after officiating the 7th International Conference and Exhibition Greentech and Eco Products Malaysia 2016.

He was responding to a news report which said the negotiators were unsure of the outcome of the discussions as the Federal Government had remained quiet on its decision to finance the asset purchase.

On the discussions between the Federal and Selangor governments pertaining to the financial assistance, Ongkili said they were still discussing the matter and were also expected to extend the deadline.

“(Selangor) has not submitted to us how much they require,” he said.
In May, Ongkili was reported as saying that the Federal Government had the option to take over Splash under the Water Services Industry Act if Selangor was unable to resolve issues with the water concessionaire by Oct 7, 2016. - Bernama
