Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili said there were still many unresolved issues that needs to be discussed particularly on the part of Selangor government.

“I understand it is already at a level that we can almost seal the deal but more time is needed so it was suggested to both sides to extend the dateline… There are a lot more factors to be fine-tuned on the Selangor government side,” he added.

Ongkili was speaking to reporters after officiating the 7th International Conference and Exhibition Greentech and Eco Products Malaysia 2016 (IGEM 2016) here today. The deadline for negotiations on Splash was supposed to be tomorrow. Ongkili said the discussion is very straightforward on his Ministry’s side as it is based on the willing-buyer and willing-seller basis.

“The Selangor government is supposed to take on Splash and we gave them one year. They have not submitted to us how much they require,” he added. In May this year, Ongkili said the Selangor government has up to October 7 to resolve issues with Splash. He also said the Federal government will have the option to take over Splash under Section 114 of the Water Services Industry Act (WSIA) 2006 should the negotiations fail to reach an agreement.
