SEDA Receives Over 4,000 Applications For FIT Schemes

SANDAKAN, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Energy, Green Energy and Water, through Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA), has approved 4,626 applications for Feed-in Tariff (FiT) schemes with tTcapacity to generate 917.20 megawatt (MW) of renewable energy up to last October.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili, said the renewable energy comprised 303.79 MW of biomass, solar photovoltaics (PV) (251.88MW), small hydropower (249.84MW) and biogas (111.69MW).

"Within the same period, 2,417 projects have started commercial operations with capacity of 242.60 MW of renewal energy. The renewal energy comprises biomass (64.8MW biomass) small hydropower (15.70MW); solar PV for non-individuals (126.04MW); solar PV for individuals (24.33MW) and biogas (11.73MW)," he said at the opening of Syarikat Cash Horse (M) Sdn Bhd's biogas and biomass plant here Monday.

Syarikat Cash Horse is a subsidiary of Cepatwawasan Group Bhd.

Ongkili said Syarikat Cash Horse's plant aimed to reduce the dependence on fossil fuel.

Earlier, Cepatwawasan chairman, Datuk Seri Mah King Thian, said construction of the RM30 million plant started in 2010 and was completed in August 2013.
