Mosti Records RM5.9 Billion Sales For RD&C Projects Under 9MP

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 11 (Bernama) -- A total of RM5.9 billion worth of sales were recorded by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti) for its research, development and commercialisation (RD&C) projects under the 9th Malaysia Plan (9MP).

Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili, said it was a return of over 200 per cent from the allocation of RM2.9 billion provided by the government.

"Meanwhile, 341 out of 1,360 projects have also been commercialised with the creation of 15,817 job opportunities.

"This clearly shows that the return on investment in science, technology and innovation is very good, can be seen very quickly and can bring about positive impact on the country's socio-economic development."

He said this when opening Mosti's 9MP RD&C Results Convention at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre here Tuesday.

Ongkili said 1,684 intellectual properties had also been registered including for patents, trademarks, copyrights and industrial designs, while 1,187 national and international awards were also received for the projects.

At a press conference, the minister said the government had also allocated RM160 million in Science Fund and RM130 million in Pre-Commercialisation Fund for next year.

Besides encouraging researchers to apply for the fund, the minister also called on the researchers to carry out research based on the topics chosen by the ministry with guidance from the National Science and Research Centre.
