Ongkili hoping for more rural RTCs

KOTA MARUDU: Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili hoped the Rural and Regional Development Ministry would set up more mini rural transformation centres (RTCs) is Sabah.

He said the RTCs were essential to local residents as they not only serve as a resource centre for information but also for education, training and entrepreneurship and youth skills development.

He said each parliamentary constituency should appropriately have more than two mini RTCs.

"The areas in each parliamentary constituency are quite a distance apart even though the coverage provided by the mini RTCs stretches a radius of 100 kilometres.

"Some constituencies have two districts and some of the roads are poorly accessible," he told reporters after opening a mini RTC at Kampung Pinatau, here, Friday.

Ongkili, who is also Kota Marudu Member of Parliament, said the Kampung Pinatau mini RTC, which is the 19th to be build in Sabah would benefit more than 1,000 residents in the village.
