Under the proposal, the gas will be channelled from Tuaran to Sandakan using a piped system, and pass through several districts including Tuaran, Kota Belud, Kota Marudu and Beluran to meet the demand for power in the east cost of Sabah.

Ongkili said the proposal was approved in principle by the economic council and its details were needed to be tabled in the Cabinet for further action.

He was speaking to reporters after officiating the first meeting of the Sabah Energy Consultative Panel here today.

The panel was set up by the Energy Commission as an initiative to discuss issues regarding the status of the electricity supply in Sabah, and serve as a platform to contribute ideas and suggesstions for the government to prepare practical and cost-effective measures to supply electricity in the state.
