SESB to be fined if disruptions persist

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd will be fined if it fails to reduce power disruptions to a total of 300 minutes next year under the System Average Interruption Duration Index.

This came about following continuous complaints about power failures almost daily at various locations across the state.

Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili, however, noted that power disruptions were on a downward trend this year, registering a total of 350 minutes compared to 550 minutes in 2014.

Dr Ongkili, who did not reveal the amount of the fine, said the index was necessary as the ministry wanted the state utility company to ensure minimal power cuts in the state.

Speaking to reporters at the Parti Bersatu Sabah Christmas open house here where Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman was among the guests, Dr Ongkili said his ministry was constantly monitoring the power supply and disruption problems in Sabah.

The ministry, he said, was in discussions with SESB to ensure a smooth delivery system.
