CyberSecurity Malaysia Signs Agreement With stratsec Australia

KUALA LUMPUR, August 5 (Bernama) -- CyberSecurity Malaysia Wednesday signed an agreement with stratsec Australia to enable the Australian information security and risk consulting services provider to set up operations here under the Malaysian Common Criteria Evaluation and Certification (MyCC) Scheme.

The agreement was signed between CyberSecurity Malaysia chief executive officer Lt Col (Rtd) Husin Jazri and stratsec chief executive officer Peter Lilley.

It was witnessed by Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili and Chief Minister, Australian Capital Territory, Jon Stanhope.

Ongkili said in a statement that the collaboration was another milestone in the continuing strong climate of cooperation and confidence between Malaysia and Australia.

"The collaboration between CyberSecurity Malaysia and stratsec will increase assurance between Australian and Malaysian trade and highlight such beneficial relationships to existing businesses," he said.

The MyCC Scheme, which is operated by CyberSecurity Malaysia, seeks to enhance the national cybersecurity industry through a systematic process of evaluating and certifying the security functionality of information and communications technology (ICT) products.

It aims to increase Malaysia's competitiveness in quality assurance of information security based on the Common Criteria standard or ISO/IEC 15408, and to build consumer's confidence towards Malaysian information security products.

According to Husin, the agreement will help grow a world-class information technology (IT) security evaluation facility in Malaysia and provide increased opportunities for Malaysian ICT product developers by providing a strong branding for "Made in Malaysia" ICT products.

CyberSecurity Malaysia hopes to attract more Australian ICT security businesses to enter the South-East Asian market by promoting the development of a vibrant local ICT security capability in Malaysia.

Meanwhile Lilley said the Malaysian government has shown great understanding of the importance of IT security as a driver of the overall industry.

"stratsec Australia shares a similar commitment to build a world-class IT security evaluation capability in Malaysia," he said.
