Ongkili Calls For Greater Australia-Malaysia Trade Collaboration

MELBOURNE, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili has called for greater collaboration and co-operation between Australia and Malaysia to promote global trade.

"There is a plethora of experiences that Malaysia and Australia can show each other and we can combine our efforts, experiences and expertise in partnerships to bring more meaning and substance to both sides," he said.

The minister was speaking at a trade seminar here to inform Australians of the growing Information & Communications Technology (ICT) and Shared Services Outsourcing (SSO) commercial opportunities available in Malaysia.

Ongkili outlined Malaysia's outstanding achievements in its progress towards Vision 2020 of becoming a developed nation by that year.

"We are working hard to transform the economy into an innovation-driven high-income economy," he said.

Ongkili said the 10th Malaysian development plan (2011-2015) contained "important measures and powerful instruments" to get Malaysia moving forward towards achieving Vision 2020.

"The test of the cake is in its eating, the test for policies is in their implementation. We know that, we are hard at it," he said.

The managing director of Accountants Resourcing Group, Bruce Coombes, and the chief executive of Employment Management Systems, Roy Prasad, spoke of their companies' successful operations in Malaysia.

The seminar was also held in Sydney.
