Ministry Mulls Incentives For Green Energy

BAHAU, Feb 22 (Bernama) -- The Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry is looking into awarding incentives to those who venture into "green" electricity generation, said its minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili.

"Supporting packages from related agencies also need to be streamlined to spur innovation in the green energy field. This will help boost the waste to wealth industry," he told reporters after visiting Felda Serting Hilir's biogas plant near here Monday.

Also present was Felda Palm Industries Sdn Bhd chief executive officer, Abdul Halim Ahmad.

The plant is a pioneer project using palm oil mill effluents as the raw material with technology provided by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Kyushu Institute of Technology.
