Netherlands Keen To Work With Malaysia On Greentech

AMSTERDAM, May 26 (Bernama) -- The Netherlands has expressed interest to work with Malaysia to pursue green technology initiatives and projects.

Its Minister of Economic Affairs Maria van der Houen said the country has expertise in green technology in agriculture and waste water management.

"This is where we can draw forces in this respect," she said in her meeting with Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili on the sidelines of the World Congress of Information Technology (WCIT 2010) here Wednesday.

Saying that the meeting with the Dutch Minister was a fruitful one, Dr Maximus expressed the hope to pursue the matter and tapping the cooperation from both sides.

Other matters of common interest discussed include the Amsterdam Declaration from the WCIT which he said was consistent with Malaysia's goals.

He said Malaysia could learn from Europe on cyber security and cyber safety and how they managed internet abuses.

As for ICT development in Malaysia, Dr Maximus said the country was set to see a 50 per cent broadband penetration rate by year-end.

This could be achieved with the roll out of the high speed broad band and availability of equipment, applications and contents, he added.
