Malaysia To Share Successes And Forge New Collaborations At WCIT 2010

KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will be sharing its success in enhancing the use of technology to transform the nation at the upcoming World Congress in Information Technology 2010 (WCIT 2010) in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from May 25 to 27.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili, who will be leading a 20-member delegation there, is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech on "Transformation of A Nation" at the event.

A statement from the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) said Ongkili would, among others, talk about the central role that technology-driven innovation would play in the development of a high income economy under the New Economic Model announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

"The minister's keynote address underlines the thought leadership in ICT and innovation that we bring to the table at WCIT 2010. We are there to share our past experiences, current efforts and future plans to drive Malaysia forward as a dynamic and globally competitive economy," said MDeC's chief executive officer Datuk Badlisham Ghazali.

Badlisham, who heads the MDeC participation in the Malaysian delegation, will speak at two track sessions -- the E-Government and Creative tracks -- on May 26 and 27 respectively.

He added that the Malaysian participation at WCIT 2010 would also be focused on exploring new collaborations that have the potential to boost the country's market share of foreign investments, promoting the country's success stories in ICT and enhancing its mindshare in the global ICT industry.

At the event, the Malaysian delegation will be involved in government-to-government discussions and business meetings with key European companies to promote MSC Malaysia and enhance the potential for new foreign investments in the national ICT initiative.

In particular, Ongkili is scheduled to have a meeting with Netherlands' Economic Affairs Minister Maria van doer Hoeven while MDeC officials will be holding discussions with European Commission representatives of its Digital Agenda.

MDeC too will be signing memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with several ICT industry partners.

Meanwhile, two Dutch companies, Royal Dutch Shell and Exact Asia, will each receive an Award of Recognition from MDeC in appreciation of their contribution to the growth and development of MSC Malaysia.

The two companies have invested significantly in operations located in MSC Malaysia and are poised to enhance their presence there further.

The statement said the Malaysian pavilion at WCIT 2010 would showcase MSC Malaysia as a choice investment location with displays on the MSC Malaysia initiatives, electronic government, creative content development, and Cyberjaya, the heart of MSC Malaysia.
