CM briefed on MI 2010 Carnival Sabah zone

KOTA KINABALU, Mar 24 -- Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Seri Dr. Maximus Ongkili and his senior officers paid a courtesy call to Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman at his official residence Sri Gaya on Monday.

The call was to brief the Chief Minister on the upcoming Malaysia Innovative 2010 (MI2010) carnival for the Sabah zone, which is planned for 28 and 29 May in Kota Kinabalu.

Sabah head of state Yang DiPertua Negeri Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Ahmadshah Abdullah is expected to open the carnival on May 29, while the Chief Minister is expected to grace the Malam Konsert Kreativiti on May 28.

Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) will host the carnival at Dewan Canselori UMS, in Teluk Likas, Kota Kinabalu. The carnival will focus on showcasing grassroot innovations in Sabah.

Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman lauded the carnival as a good platform for Sabah to showcase and demonstrate their many innovative and creative ideas and products, which are not known to many Malaysians.

Dr Ongkili’s delegation at the courtesy call included Deputy Secretary-General Dato’ Dr. Sharifah Zarah binti Syed Ahmad and officials of Mosti agencies.

The carnival is one of the major programmes of the Year of Innovation or Malaysia Innovative 2010, to instill the culture of innovation and creativity among all levels of society.

It is in line with the national innovation agenda to transform the economy to one that is innovation-driven in order for the country to create more wealth, generate knowledge and for societal wellbeing.

The carnival for the Sabah zone is the second to be held following the launch of MI2010 by the Prime Minister in January. The first carnival was held at the northern zone in Kangar, Perlis on February 27.
